There is a common misunderstanding that it is the responsibility of the emergency services to ensure everyone evacuates from a building safely,  

  

In the Ireland and many other countries there is a legal requirement for employers, service providers and building owners to ensure the safe evacuation of mobility impaired persons from the building in the event of an emergency. 

  

Suitable and sufficient procedures and equipment must be in place to ensure anyone permitted into a building can be safely evacuated in the event of an emergency without depending on the emergency services.

To give participants the skills to operate the Evacuation Chair confidently and competently. 

The course includes: 

  • Understanding fire safety 

  • Moving to the assembly point 
  • Practical use of the chair under various scenarios 
  • Descending the stairs 
  • Moving & Transfer of Evacuee from office, corridor, or landing to stairs 
  • Putting the chair user at ease 
  • Chair Assembly 
  • Manual Handling – principals of safe lifting in and out of the chair, as well as handling the chair. 
  • Personal Emergency Evacuation Planning (PEEPS) 
  • Evacuation Procedures 
  • How Fire Travels
